Janet and Allen: We absolutely love "The Giz" and he is giving us much more than we could ever give him. He's starting to lose his Louisiana accent and ends most of his sentences with the word "Eh?" He'll fit right in here in Canada. I'm sure he's wondering why the air conditioning is always on outside. It snowed lightly a few days ago (melted almost right away) but he was intrigued by this cold, white substance on the ground. He still plays with his ball but has pretty much traded it in for a red tennis ball that I bought. He can play for hours on end with the ball, despite all the little toys I have purchased for him.
My face must taste good because he likes licking it and giving us kisses. Thank you for taking such good care of him. In return, we promise that the little Giz will be spoiled and loved for the rest of his days. He's an important part of the family! We'll send lots of pictures soon!

Billie Bonin: I found this group on Christmas day. I am a retiree on a fixed income and had just lost my 2 Boston Terriers in August and October, at 12 1/2 and 12 and was missing them dearly. My RN daughter was sleeping in prep of her night shift so after having lunch with my great son-in-law I came back home and started surfing.
I found Lou in Lafayette, 20 miles away who put me in touch with Rocky and now I am a member. As luck would have it a Boston Terrier had just been picked up as a stray 2 weeks before. He is mine now! and I am doing what I can to foster others.
I have time, but not money to contribute, so anyone who can, please donate to this fine organization to help cover the costs of vet fees and sometimes transportation costs too. These dogs are undeserving of whatever has come their way.
The Boston Terrier that I was so lucky to get is fully house trained, leash trained and regcognizes common commands..I fully believe he was pre owned and perhaps became a stray during Hurricane Rita. He is underweight and eats acorns when we go for walks twice daily in addition to his regular food. He has already gained a lb. and I just got him 11 days ago. I call him Sebby, short for Sebastion, but he should be called an Angel from Heaven. You would swear he has been mine forever. We think he is about 2 years old, so I look forward to a long enjoyment as well as fostering other medium sized dogs until they find their forever homes.
If you can help financially, please let Rocky know.
God Bless and prayers for all you good people out there.

Love your paintings and your babies. You are an awsome lady to have done all you have for so many and to get such wonderful homes for them all. I am so glad that you were the one to have Beggar, if only for the brief time you were allowed together. I am sorry it wasn't meant to be longer, but he loved every minute of it and you most of all. Thank you for loving him as you did.

You have lovely sofas too, I must observe! How do you manage to keep them so clean? :-) The slide show of that poor neglected bulldog, Rufus brought tears to my eyes. I hope he is okay now with his new family? I'm the gal interested in little Martin. Yours sincerely, Cathy Shubert

Tera McGinness: I am involved with quite a few animal rescue groups, both cats and dogs. Unfortuantely, I am way over in Northern Arizona. BUT.... there are several of your animals I'd be interested in knowing about. Not sure how we'd transport them to here, but can't hurt to ask I always say. I'm 54 years old, on disability (doesn't in any way interfere with my care of my critters) and on a fixed income. I do, however, make a little extra making quilts and crocheting and knitting blankets for other folks. Anyway, I am EXTREMELY interested in two of your cats, older...BooBoo and Jackie. I have two cats, one Persian male and one Abysinnian female, both fixed and declawed. They are very laid back cats so would adapt to newcomers quite well. I've had othe fosters in and out and they were never a problem. I believe in taking the older cats, besides, I am older myself! (grin) Spot is also one I'd love to have. These 3 are my top picks. I would also be interested in two of your kittens if you still have them..Pigeon and Minnie. I thought perhaps if it was at all possible you might be interested in letting me adopt at least two, preferrably the older cats. I know how difficult the older ones are to place. Could you please let me know? Like I said, I know I'm far away, but they'd have a definite quiet loving home!

I got your website thru Truck-N-Paws which I just joined. Is that small dog Becky still there? If so, is there something I can do to help? My wife and I have non-dog friendly Schnauzer so adoption is unlikely. However, we may be able to foster her or offer some financial support.
Please let me know.

Judy Embry: Bless you for the good work you do. I always look at your pictures when there is a posting from you. As vice-president of Berkshire Humane Society (where Diane Briggs is working now), I hope to be able to transport dogs and cats(?) up to our shelter from the south some day if our numbers are low. I am currently fostering 3 kittens who were the only survivors from a house of 18, a mom and her 6 kittens (owner surrender) and a litter of 5 tiny kittens that were found in a box on the side of the road. As a school teacher, I have time during the summer and love to do this. Have not had puppies in a couple of years. It seems most people are spaying and neutering their dogs up here in Massachusetts. Wish I could say the same for cats!
My own crew consists of 4 dogs and 10 cats.

Nicki Branch: Hey Rocky and others...I will be adopting little miss Scabbie Pattie and she will be living her life out in luxury on a beautiful ranch in sunny southern California, San Diego. She will be pampered and preened over and treated like a princess for the rest of her life. Once all her hair grows back in and shes put on more pounds, I think I'll snap a picture of Pattie with sunglasses on layin on a velour towel poolside, tell her story and send it to the local newspaper of where she was found for her success story! Little thrown away mangy dog hits LOTTO!!! hahahaha! Pattie WILL get the last laugh on her previous owners!!

She was SO lucky to be found before she died - so many like her aren't so lucky. I hope she finds a wonderful home. God will bless you for the kindness and love you have shown and given to these nimals. Chihuahua's has been in my home from generation to generation and now I own one and named her after my grandmother's chihuahua. I looked forward getting E-mails from your rescue and looking at the pictures and every time it brings tears to my eyes. My chihuahua means the world to me and I love her dearly. I can't see how anyone cannot see the love that these animals can give and make your life complete. I know mine does. All these animals want is a warm and loving and caring home to call their own and in return they will give so much back. You are doing a great job, I am sorry to hear that you are retiring. Phyllis Prichard: Rocky, I live in Decatur, AL, and I've only been reading about your doings for a little over 2 months. I know you get a lot of e-mails and I just wanted to tell you that have been moved to tears more than once by the wonderful things you seem to find a way of accomplishing.
My baby is an 8 year old female miniature poodle that I brought home from our shelter here in Decatur. Her original owner was a back-yard breeder who developed cancer (I call it poetic justice). Coco Puff then went to a home where there was a mother, her young son and her father. The father didn't want the dog in the house, and though I don't know it for a fact, I was told that the father possibly also abused the dog. I also think the child may have, but again, no proof.
When I saw Coco Puff at the shelter, her coat was in deplorable condition, and she was extremely thin. When I got her home I also found that her ears were full of black filth, and her teeth were brown and her breath, as you can imagine, was terrible.
My first concern was to get her teeth taken care of. She had to have 8 pulled!! All kinds of blood work was done to make sure nothing was going on internally, and once she had put on some weight she was spayed. It was no surprise to find that she had a small tumor, and she also had endometriosis.
I've finally managed to get her ears cleaned, her remaining teeth look much better, and she looks so much better.
Wouldn't it be nice if all the stories could have even half as good an ending to them.
Every time I see Jack's name at the end of your e-mails it brings tears to my eyes because I wonder how he's doing and where he is, as I know you do. I keep hoping that one day there'll be an e-mail from you announcing that he's been found. There's always a chance.
In closing, I just want to commend you for all the wonderful thngs you're doing. I know I don't have to tell you to "keep up the good work!!!"

dparker: Saw the choe pups, love the white one, was looking for a chow for my mom for Mother's Day cause she had to put her chow down and since her chow died mom has been so depress and very sad and misses her chow deeply. Can't afford much for adoption but I know my mom would give this chow a loving and caring home and with lots of TLC. I know it would never replace Sky but it would fill that emptiness mom is missing. Mom lives in Shamokin,Pa 17872. At least I know I would spare one dogs life and give this chow a loving and caring and warm home to call her own forever.

Lisa Dworkin: Hi Rocky,
I too want to commend you for your outstanding commitment to these animals. You are their savior. I have great admiration for you and the efforts you constantly put forth in such a stressful situation to help those who need it. I truly enjoyed your story about Nancy! I have a deaf/blind Catahoula I am fostering so I could relate to exploring the new surroundings. My guy was rescued from Baton Rouge, and a friend and I picked him up and drove him to Illinois where I live. I am ever grateful as a person to know there is someone like you working so hard to help the innocent victims of someone's lack of responsibility. I only wish I could do more as well....you are my inspiration!!!
April 18, 2003 2:22PM
Melody: You are such a Angel to these poor animals. I have just started paying attention to the email that I have seen from you and on all the poor souls you are trying to save. You are such a gift to the animals!!
Keep up the good work! So many dogs and cats have a 2nd chance at life because of what you do!!!
April 11, 2003 9:03AM
Susan: I want to commend you and all animal rescue groups that endlessly go into the shelters to get these innocent babies a home or giving them a 2nd chance to life. I pray that you will have much blessings and success in what you are called to do, because not everyone has the ability and the love to do this kind of work.
If humans would stop and respect and love these sweet animals that God has created, this world would be a better place for them. May God's hand be upon you and that all the animals you bring attention to the public find a home!

Kay: I thought I didn't have enough time to read all of Nancy's long story because I was cooking supper. My plan was to start the crossposted story (all the way from SPAIN to Corning, NY)and read the rest at a later time. Do I need to tell you that I STOPPED COOKING, read Nancy's Story TWICE and was still wiping the tears away as I finally finished the "Hamburger Helper." I found myself giving my four fluffbutts a little extra supper that night because of Nancy. You truly are a Gifted Writer and Nancy's Story was "The Best of the Best." Thank you for sharing Nancy with us and for telling us "the rest of the story." I feel as though I know Nancy, as though I have held her in my arms. I know I will hold her forever in my heart. Thank you for all those who are waiting, waiting, waiting............... LOVE!!!

Jane K: I sat and looked at the beautifully
clean and yet soooo in need puppers and listened to the music as tears flowed down my face. I adopted a last chance yellow lab with severe epilepsy back in Aug 2001. She had a year and a hal with me before shhe went into status epilepticus. I still have 2 epis another breed. and 3 other borzoi and 3 other gsds. Have a kennel license. Sooo many times when my epis are post-ictal I am on holld and the music at the animal Hopital is soo similar to your music that I thought of poor darling Sugar, the poor little yellow lab whose life was way too short. Her ashes are in a beautiful purple velvet box and inside in a bronze contaner. The Southern woman who gave me Sugar sent me a bible in her memory. I sleep with it by my bed and read a psalm in her memory each night. Why is life so unfair to some of these poor little creatures such as my darling Sugar Bear?? I may adopt another epi in need.. I have a need I guess to be needed for I somehow always find the needy pup who has no time or who is ill.. Best of luck and wish I could do more but right now the economy in MA. is awful. God Bless you all and hugs to all the pups waiting and hoping for a forever home.jk

The Black Mama Dog that has the 5 available pups that are about 1 week old. It states she is some kind of shepherd mix. She is medium size, medium hair. Can you tell me how big/weight medium size is and about how big the pups will get? Thak you so much for your kindness and consideration.

I see your messages so often on the rescue lists...keep up the good work down there! Tonight I decided to take a look at the pictures...those are really nice-looking dogs and you've done such a great job getting the photos on there. Makes me want to take them all home :-)
That little red fox-type dog is beautiful. We hope they all can find rescue or homes as they are all deserving.
