Nykie: Hi,
Just looked through your Sophie pictures and cried my eyes out; she's so brave and gorgeous. Getting her leg cremated to put into Max's ashes was a nice touch.
I used to have a Golden Retriever and his ashes are buried under his favourite tree in the garden. I now have a black Flatcoated Retriever as I couldn't get another dog like Casper.
Anyway, give Sophie a big kiss and some more biscuits :o)

Michael: I have a boxer who is about 2 1/2 years old. When she was about 8 months old,(5 days before Christmas) she was hit by a pick-up truck on a highway. Like Sophie, she was taken to the Emergency Vet to have surgery. She had torn her liver, spleen, lungs, had broken 2 ribs and had severe neurological damage to her paw. She recovered quickly and was back on her feet in no time at all. Now, she's tunning around, playing with all the other dogs. You would never know what was wrong with her unless you got really close. She walks primarily on three legs and only uses the fourth when needed. But, despite her the pain, when playing with the other dogs, she never lacks a time to use this extra paw to "club" her playmates.
Sophie's story is a very good one.
This is one of those things that you are thankful to have: a pet that will always be there for you.
Michael

Betty: I was looking at your dog's album. It brought back memories. When our dog was 10 months old she broke her back. Fortunately, she had growth plate that broke off and made room for the spinal cord. Her spinal cord was just bruised. The veterinary surgeon was able to operate and fix her back. We were very lucky. She's now almost 14 years old!! Don't you love a happy ending? I'm glad your dog's story ended happily too.

Aren't Labs great?! Our Lab Bogie went through several surgeries, the last when he was 14. He had a 10 pound spleen tumor removed, and lived another 7 months afterwards. You can read about Bogie at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Creek/5500/dog.html
We need to cherish all our time with these special friends. They're with us for such a short time. Our guy was a true "angel."

Breana Morgan: What a heartwarming story. I have shared your sight with all my family/friends. (Hope you don't mind! :-) tee hee).
If the world had more caring, loving people like you, it would certainly be a better place. It's all too common for people to view animals as "things" and "possessions" as opposed to the family members they truly are.
I was always raised to treat animals as equals (if not superiors!!). It is so WONDERFUL to see that there are families like yours who understand what it's all about. I'm so happy Sophie has a home like yours. Bless her heart and yours for being who and what you are.
Give her an extra doggie treat from a new found fan from Nova Scotia.

We have a rottweiler named Addie and she could be Sophie's sister. Sits the same way. . . smiles the same way . . . sleeps the same way . . . and I'm sure gives and receives the same love. One loved little girls. Thanks for sharing your story. Warm regards, Tom & Sydney, Monterey, California.

CaRoL (Sophie's Owner): Please don't be sad ... although Sophie went through a horrible ordeal, she is now a happy dog living a virtually normal life! She out-runs the kids out in the yard and plays every game she played before the accident. Please don't be sad when you read Sophie's story, please be inspired by her will to live, instead. She is so happy now that she's healed and you can't even tell she's handicapped, she does everything she used to and almost as well as before!!!

iconnections: Sophie is so lucky to have you as her family and you are very lucky to have your dog. Our cat had a car accident too when he was only two months old but survived it without any broken bones. He can no longer jump up a chair because of his calcified spine which showed up years later. He is almost seventeen years old now. Hope Sophie will live long and happy with your loving family! Thank you for sharing your great pictures. Emmy
