Sharon Baughman: Dear Sue, Your work is beautiful. Your photo album me with inspiration. I especially love the use of the micro cord. Do you have any "rules of thumb" when to use it and when not to? I am very "new" in the business and just wondered if there were any rules about cording/piping sizes. Thank you. Sharon
June 27, 2005 7:45PM

carol janke: I have to say that I love your work. I was thinking of going to the school & now I must go. Angie Riggs: I am truly inspired by your work. I was able to take a couple of your classes in SC this year. I love your micro trim detail to everything you do. It really sets your work above the rest. I have just made the move from home sewing machines to industrial. Installing a juki serger, us stitch line blind hemmer and a walking foot juki straight stitch. However excited I have realized the walking foot is probably not for me. Since it is hard to apply cording, any tips? Or just get a new machine? I would love some of your insight if you have a second. Thanks Angie

Linda Hartnett: Hi Susan, Although I'm sure you don't remember, I met you last fall at the Custom Home Furnishings Trade Show after taking your course. I am half way through an Interior Design Certificate program with 2 years to go. I have a small design business I started a little over a year ago and really love designing window treatments and soft furnishings. I use a wonderful workroom in N. Andover, MA and at her suggestion went with her to the conference. I loved it and learned so much. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate seeing your beautiful work. You obviously work with very talented designers who I'm sure feel blessed to work with such a gifted artist! I often go to your site for inspiration and am always awed by the beauty of your work. Thank you for sharing your work, for giving me such inspiration, and for challanging me, as a new designer to always strive for the highest quality as well as beauty. Sincerely, Linda Hartnett BTW: 10 monthes ago I had never heard of micro cording or bump interlining. Since your class, I have never designed a window treatment that did not incorporate microcording and I specify interling when ever possible - The details really do make all the difference :-)

Susan Gill: What fun you must have! Your work is really over-the-top beautiful. With so many raves on WW, I finally checked it out during my "lunch break". I have a couple of designers who do this English look and we enjoy doing it, but I'm sure glad others want simple stuff. The balance is good. I wonder why so much trim is sewn on by hand. Except for the appearance of machine stitches upon very close inspection,I've never found that it makes much difference in appearance and think it's harder to keep the trim even when hand sewing. Of course tension and foot pressure (or lack thereof) are critical. All in all, very impressive work and very well presented. Kudos.

Glenda Palmer: Your work is truly spectacular.
June 7, 2004 4:13PM

Gail Lovett/Golden Pear Interiors: Hello Sue, I just went through your entire picture album. I love the use of the trims and the contrast fabrics. Those are the things that drew me to want to do custom furnishing. I also love the valances(and actually the panels, too!) in the summer 2004 Windows & Walls p. 52 and 53. Merlyn seems to think that a pattern isn't required for these valances and referred to a picture trail page of yours. Although I'm a visual person, I'm not seeing what I need to see. A pattern may not be necessary but some written instruction would be wonderful. I would like to make these for a client, as well as, to put them in my own dining room. Can you help? I'm sure you have several things competing for your time so I greatly appreciate you giving me some additional direction. Very grateful, Gail Lovett Golden Pear Interiors

Julia Covin: Sue, Thank you for letting us learn from your workrom tips. I am about to make PP drapes from a striped fabric and will do a bias minicheck banding down the leading edge including a 1/2" purchased cord in the edge seam. I will also do a check facing. I also will insert a bias band in the top seam of the drape. My question is: Do you double fold your banding on the front of the drape? And do you sew the lining in this seam also? Treating the fabric and lining as one?

Alyssa "Lacie" Lewis: Susan, I am going to save your picturetail in my favorites. Can you give me the instructions on how to make the potty seat cover. I think I can figure it out but I just want to be sure I am thinking on the same page. Great inspiration for a beginner like me! Alyssa
