John Dixon: Hi Jan thanks for letting me spend all my money at your shop. My Dad is happy to have his woodburning stuff working again. I will give these books and tools to an aspiring carver, although young he has a lot of potential and we have to do all we can to draw that out of folks.
Thanks again

Barb Frowen: I was fortunate enough to come down to Jan's studio from Thunder Bay last summer, with my friend. It was our first attempt at wood carving. We had such a great time at his lawnchair workshop!!!!!! It is my prized possession. Jan and his wife were great ambassadors for the carving profession as well as their city.
I enjoy browsing his site from time to time and hopefully, will get back for a visit and another lesson!.
take care Jan!

Some great carvings there Jan. However thanks for the help you've given me over the last year as I stumble along trying to carve.
However how come an ugly old ... fella like you always attracts bonnie lassies. Apart from my wife these kind of lassie avoid me like the plague.

Jack Miller: Jan, what great fun it was to go through your albums again. It's been a while since I've done that. I really like the idea of the carved chairs. By the way, is the wood white oine. The one picture makes me feel that white pine was used because of the grain pattern.
In any event keep up the great work and I hope to see you again soon.
I'm hoping to retire after the next school year and plan to devote a lot of time to travelling and teaching. I hope to come and teach at Joe Dillet's GOW and at the Chipping Away program, if they'll have me as well as Jim Odea and Tony Erickson's Florida Roundup, as well as continue to teach at the several that I work in already.
BTW how's Thea doing?

I finally managed to wheedle a little space in my back room so I can set up my carving gear and I want to build a nice bench for relief carving and wood burning. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

November 16, 2001 8:33PM
Morgan Groves: Jan, your website and your comments on the porch are a delight! What I am trying to figure out is how you have time to do any carving.
By the way, I took the little sample piece you carved for me where you put your initials on it, and sold it at a carving show for $300. Do I get to keep the money? I did a pretty good job of imitating your Dutch brogue, and now a bunch of people in Illinois think the woodbutcher is a big fat guy who lives in DeKalb!
Seriously, your pictures are great idea starters for my work. I hope to get my own website up soon, but there are a hell of a lot of other things on my plate as well.
