Mica Spano Lego: Barbara, I am viewing your albums, They are great. Thanks for putting the picture of me in the prom section. I remember so many of the people. I loved coming to Welch each summer and lots of other times. I have so many great memories of my summers there. The pool, sterling drive inn, Kimball, all of the birthday parties and seeing the names of the people I knew brought back lots of good times. I am going to look at everythink and go thru my pictures and see if I have any that you could use.. I saved everything . I still have the prom dress and the one I wore at the senior prom too. Thanks again, I always felt I was part of the gang too.

Linda (Graham) Soderberg: I moved to Michigan after I graduated, but, the mountains and the friends I made in Wech High School have stayed in my heart all these years. Thank you for sharing these photos of Welch.....they brought back a bunch of memories. And thank you, too, Olene, for sending the link to me. I will definitely 'pass it along'.

warful5: Hi Barbara. The guest book is fabulous and I have seen some names that I think I recognize. I left Welch in spring of 44 to the Service. I probably have some photos that you could use. I remember the military plane crash, the train crash in Mayberry and I remember slidding down the hill back of the Blakely Field stands, for football practice after walking from WHS. War time gasoline rationing stunted the bus trip from school. I will be in touch. Ralph Warfe

Your post has encouraged me to reread your books. I really enjoy your memories of growing up in Welch, especially, Girls, Girls, Girls chapter. Sounds like a real "Greek God" was moving around Welch. barbara: Hi Everyone, I have added a couple new photos on "Memories are made of this." I do plan to do more with this site. I think I am getting famous now, ha. The Hagerstown Magazine called last week and said they wanted to do a feature story on me for the March-April issue. The reporter was here for 2 and 1/2 hours. The magazine is on line so I will send you site address when it is out. It is just away to fight the "age thing".

jeanettia lynn (cole) white: wow, this reminds me how important my grandparents were, and still are, in my life; with humble roots and all. I was young in the 60's and my grandpa was an officer of the law. I've always been proud of that. really thought he was a big shot. (good memories, thanks)

Bob Bracey: What a great site with many memory stimulating pictures. The more I look at the photos and messages, the more I seem to remember about Welch. Even though we left Welch about 1949-50, it is still 'home'. You can take a boy out of the mountains but you can not take the mountains out of the boy!!
October 9, 2008 7:03AM

Elaine Fletcher: Hey Girl, Loved reading all the guestbook notes. Whenever you decide to ride your Thunderbird to South Pointe you will have to call me so I can bring a change of clothes and dress appropriate to ride in the awesome buggy. I have had many opportunities to do the "strut" when I walk. My husband actually said, "what in the world has gotten into you?" I laughed and went about my business. See you in class this week. 6/8/08 - Elaine (Gigi)
June 8, 2008 7:08AM

barbara: Hi Everyone. I wanted to let you know I am working on a new album of fifties clothes. Some of which I have in old photos. Also. I just received a report from Picture Trail. In the last 7 days, there have Been 74911 hits on my albums. Soooo some one is checking us out.

Linda Stevens: Hello Barbara: We don't know each other. I saw your prom photo on Regis & Kelly the other month and wrote your name and school down, curious because I'm from Hagerstown and had never heard of Welch HS. I asked a Hagerstown friend who knows most of the people in town, and she also hadn't heard of it. So I just now looked you up on the internet and found your website. What a fun thing to do, and I see you have many friends who enjoy it also. Good for you. I graduated from South Hagerstown High in 1966, thus my curiosity about your high school and why I didn't know of it -- until I read that you were in WV, which was my father's state also. Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed seeing your photo on TV.
June 2, 2008 1:25PM

Harvey Collins: What a pleasent suprize. I often think and wonder about all my friend of days gone by. I hope that life has been good to you. I would be pleased to hear from anyone. I would like to go back to Welch just to look around someday. There is a lot of fond memories there.

February 4, 2008 9:57AM

barbara: I have had several request to bring back my homepage. It is a page just about me and my life and the only way to respond there is to join, but you can email me with comments. bcassell@myactv.net. Just click on "my homepage" in the top left hand corner of the album page.

Michelle Carrasco: Hi Barbara, Because of your sister, I have been able to enjoy all of your work. What a blessing you are to all of your classmates, I'm sure! I am going to be 40 in March but because my parents raised me with all of the music of the 40's, 50's and 60's, I have a great appreciation for all the work you have done here. I always told my mom that I wish I was born back when she was. It looked like so much fun! Keep up the good work! Nancy's hair dresser, Michelle Carrasco PS. - WOW, I love what you did with your basement!
January 14, 2008 6:40AM

bettymartin: I'm so glad you found my albums and sent me the link to yours. I think I grew up in a town very similar to Welch. Even your old high school building looks like the one I went to in NJ. We had pajama parties and wore our baby dolls too! Your memories are my memories. I love your T-Bird and the diner in your basement. I'm a sentimental old fool and love what you've done. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I'm saving the link so I can come back and visit again. Betty-Westwood High School, Westwood, NJ-Class of 1964 :)

It was great and met some really nice people. It was held at the Meadow's Ice Cream store, a fifties shop. I also left the sign on the back of the T-Bird and people enjoyed information about our reunion. I think we all thought it was our best. I hope classmates will write and tell us their experience at Pipestem.

fdk1021: Hey Barbara - Guess who this is?? Your niece Felicia. It is really weird how I came upon your albums. Mother was telling me about what happened to Jake and and him being a good friend of daddy's. She also told me that he was at Mamaw's receiving and for some reason I thought that I remembered him. I found a Welch forum about Jake on the internet and saw your comments and it led me to your album. After seeing the pictures of Jake, I do remember talking to him at Mamaw's receiving. Looking at this pictures of you and Nancy from the fifties is really cool. Take care.

Charles Skiles: Hi Barbara, It has been a while since I accessed your website so I thought I would give it another peek. I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed looking at the new selections you added. I thought they really enhanced the nostalgic mood you have created with your site. It served to reinforce the opinion I had when I first accessed your website..."Class Act!!! Keep digging around in the cobwebs of your attic and reaching back into the storehouse of your memory, who knows what else lies hidden there waiting to be rediscovered and shared with others. Personally, hope you never exhaust your supply of pics and old memories. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. Charles Skiles
February 9, 2007 11:36AM

Bill Clayton: Barbara I really like the pictures on your site.I especially liked the pics of my sister Margie. The train pics are nice as collecting model trains is a hobby of mine. I was a stationary steam engineer when I was working in D.C. Also like the pics of welch. I visited welch last year and it just isn't the same. Keep up the good work!
February 5, 2007 2:51PM

Kelly: Hi Barbara: Thank you so much for visiting my site and signing the guest book leading me to your awesome photos. The Tic Toc ll is an incredible basement. I never thought of converting a basement into a fifties diner. I truly love the idea. When I ever buy a house believe me when I say I intend to have a fifties diner in my basement. The photos of my living room need to be updated. I have moved twice since those pics were taken. Eventually I will get around to taking new photos and I will place them up. Thanks again for leading me here. I had an enjoyable visit. Peace &God Bless Kellya1211 http://www.feelingnostalgic.com

Roy Hatfield: Hi Barbara - Nancy told me about your web site. I am sure you had a great time puting it together, and you have wonderful memories. I think everyone graduating in 1957 feels they own part of something special. We have shared the best of times. Congratulations, keep it going.
December 22, 2006 12:31PM

Charles Skiles: Hi Barbara, Thanks for referring me to your “Fabulous 50’s” site. I actually came across this site about 6 months ago, but can’t recall how I got directed to it at that time. Also, I was not aware at that time who owned the site. The other day when I clicked on the link you sent me I did notice that there seemed to be some new photos that were added since the first time I accessed it. In my opinion, the collection of photos that you have put together on this site has done more to capture the mood of that special growing up period in the 50’s around Welch and surrounding areas than any I have thus far seen. You are definitely to be commended for the meaningful contribution you have made to old nostalgic buffs, like me who like to remember the way things were back in “ the good ole days!” Thanks again, Charles Skiles
November 7, 2006 11:00AM

I currently live in Towson. Hagerstown isn't far so I'd love to come and see the Tic Toc II sometime. Let me know if you ever have an "open house.".

Bob Greene: Hey Barbara, This is "that Welch Kid" you've always referred to me as being. I've really enjoyed the tour down your Welch Memory Lane! It gets better each time I go there in my wonderful memories of Welch and those times long past that you've so wonderfully preserved for all of us! Thanks for sharing your's and Nancy's photo memories with us. I can't imagine anyone having a more picture-perfect collection of 1950's Welch memories than the Dawson girls! I'll be sure to share the link to your website with my older sisters Glenna & Brenda. I'm sure their memories are much better than mine from those 1950's days! You see, I'm still just "that Welch kid" to which you refer (some 10 or more years younger than you elder yet more wise ladies of Welch)! Still, I cherish the old Welch memories and will forever crave that ol' sub sandwich, Wise potato chips and a Coke with a paper straw from the Sterling Drive-In that I'm sure we ALL remember! ;-) All the best to you dear Barbara. Glad to see you're back in good health! "That Welch Kid"
