Mark Van Thiel: Just looking at your site and pictures has brought back so many memories for me. I came to Mt Home yearly to visit my grandparents who moved there from the Chicago area. They lived outside of town on what is now West Rd. Their name was Etteldorf. My uncle also had a tv repair service in town at Hwy 5 and Hwy 62 area called Triangle TV.
I like that the pics are in black and white, some how thats how I remember it. Maybe because all the pics I have are the same way.
I was there in 2003 and couldn't believe the changes. Yet it all seemed to be the same(except the bridges, I miss the ferries). I knew just where I was at.
You have a great site thank you for the memories and good luck in continuing with it.
ps. must tell my Aunt who still lives in the area to check you out.

Shannon Roberts Agee: My grandfather, William Erskine Roberts was born in Mountain Home in 1883 to Sarah Elizabeth Roberts. Sarah later married Charles Merriman and had two children; James Lloyd Merriman and Julia May Merriman. Julia May married Albert V Bonham and had Albert V., Paul and Rollins Bonham. I am trying to locate some living relatives to compare genealogy notes. They can contact me by sending an email with "genealogy" in the subject line to sagee57@hotmail.com.
Thanks for the great photos and postcards, it gives me an idea of where my family came from.

Nadine Biggers Froderman: Looking at the old postcards of Mtn Home back in the 50's really made me homesick for this is the era I best remember the old Square. I also enjoyed the pictures of the building of Norfork Dam.
I enjoyed, too, the Class of '69's pictures. Was fun to see a couple of cousins who graduated in that class.

Martin Kellem: It is amazing how much the Mountain Home area has changed. There is definitely something lost today with so many new businesses, new faces, etc. Growth is good business-wise but you lose something valuable in the exchange.

We have lived here for 10 years and are the current owners of the Razorback Resort that you showed under Bull Shoals Lake and Lakeview. Things haven't changed much, except that we keep horses at the resort and it is now fenced and the siding has changed on the buildings.
Thanks again,

Larry Nelson: I was born on the square in 1947, so I remember many of the businesses in the post cards. The post card that shows the Willow Court on 62 East was later called Simple Simon’s restaurant. Town East Center is built on that site now. Spring Valley Motel is located back toward town about 2 blocks near the creek at the bottom of the hill, and I think it’s still there. I’ll look tomorrow.
Good stuff! Thanks for posting the pictures.

Betsy K Holt: Just had this forwarded by a friend also formerly of Lakeview. My family (Kough at that time) had the Lakeview Boat Dock and this friend's family (Ellis) had Lakewood Court in Lakeview. Our kids attended Mtn Home HS together. When our 4th child was born (in Salzman Clinic) she made the population of Lakeview 100!!

I have some pictures that I do not know who they are. Is there any way I can get them published in the Baxter County History? I think it is Mary Conley or Velee Cooper

February 19, 2004 8:45PM
Nancy Baxter: This is a wonderful web site. I have thoroughly enjoyed viewing pictures which have brought back many wonderful memories. My Grandparents and I spent many summer days camping at Panther Bay and riding the wonderful ferries. I was glad to see a picture of the restaurant. I also remember riding "the other" ferry...not the Henderson ferry that landed by Panther Bay. Where was the location of that ferry? And did it land in or near Missouri?
I also enjoyed the picture of the ferry at Calico Rock. I remember crossing it several times when I was a child and I always hid in the floor of the car because I was so frightened, as was my Grandmother but she managed to stay in her seat! I'm glad that she lived long enough to take a trip across the bridge that replaced the ferry!
Again, thanks for sharing the pictures!

Royce Jones: Mary Anne: Dean Lane, advised me of your website and I have enjoyed viewing the photos and the memories they inspired. We were blessed to grow up in Mtn. Home. The area has changed dramatically and hopefully the growth will continue to be well planned. The new college campus and the bypass make the area almost unrecognizable although welcome signs of well planned growth and prosperity. I have a website called Mountain Home Remembered that I would like to invite you and others to visit. There are a number of photos posted as well as reunion information and addresses of some of the participants. The address is: http://groups.msn.com/MountainHomeRemembered
I have been away from Mtn. Home for 40 years, but I still call it home.
Thanks for the effort that you have expended and keep up the good work.

Dean
