Carla Potter: Sue, I really like your nature mural and flood. Years ago we had a beige living room wall and I did an indian mural. The center of interest was a Comanche lad on a paint pony. He was praying to the great spirit thanking him for the abund-
dance of animals. That was in 1962 and haven't seen one since. Well, I really do like it.

August 12, 2003 4:15AM
Cynthia: Thank you for an enjoyable website. As an amateur craftsperson with a love of folk art, dolls and teddy bears, I was impressed by the way you applied the Columbia baby painted face idea to cloth bears. I don't know if that was your inspiration, but outside of the old style dolls, it's an approach I haven't seen before. It gives the bears a vintage feel that I particularly like. So many, many bear artists labor at changing the design, when paint, as you show, can work even more effectively. That's a stroke of genius. You've inspired me, something that's not so easy to do.
August 8, 2003 9:17AM

Katherine Lloyd: Dear Sue,
Thank you for the oppportunity to view your wonderful work, especially the faces of your black dolls.
The grandfather of two of my daughter's children was an African-American serviceman, and the children's Daddy is very sensitive about the "Mammy" type of doll, having suffered stigma
and isolation due to his different racial background and obvious dark skin colouring. Thus I really appreciate seeing the work of artists who see the individual instead of a stereotype.
Best wishes
