james garwood: My gourd work was being eaten up. I read your article about using ammonia and jumped in the car and bought some I have in the last hour treated three pieces.. I didn't know what to use so am super glad to find a solution.. I would like to send you some pictures of my work so you can see what you have helped me save.. Question ,,,some of my work doesn't seem to be affected so do these critters not get into all gourds?? Thanks JG

Ray Davis: Sammie, where in the world are you? Haven't seen you in a couple of years. Don't know if you remember me or not but you said you would love to come and teach at our gourd festival sometime so I am renewing the invitation. I love your work and I loved your class I took at Cherokee. I still am making gourds from some of your patterns in "Creative Gourds" and love making the dewdrop! Ray

1eyedjack: Hello, Don't laugh at the idea of freezing them. I used to work in the cigar industry and we have a similar bug. The dreaded tobacco bug. We would carefully wrap the cigars and freeze them for 24 hours in a chest freezer and bingo, no more tobacco beatle. It does work, of course you would need a VERY LARGE FREEZER to do all your gourds, but freezing will kill both the bug and the larva. Good luck from 1eyedjack and the three legged cat AKA "The Dawg"

Shea: I sent this to your e-maill addy as published in the L/C newsletter and it came back. So here it is. Hope you get it okay. Dear Sammie, Nothing does my painting heart more good than seeing someone like you doing so well!! Congratulations on the latest article about The Fairy Gourdmother. Your enthusiasm is still catching and very evident in the article in the Spectrum newsletter. Mary McCullah is a dear. She and I have stayed together a few times when traveling to shows. I'm sure she enjoyed working with you. I'm doing well and still keep a toe in the painting door. The industry has changed so much, but then so has the entire world. Keep up the good work.
