Paul Henson: Hi, I served on USS Dixie from 1979 - 1982. I was an ET3 working in the R4 Division 0E01. We once had the "Don't Tread on Me" flag as our Union Jack. The last part of memory that I took with me was a 1939 penny that I found painted to the deck in one of the berthing compartments.

Charles R. Morgan: I served onboard in the typewriter shop in 1958-59. Made Instrumentman E-4 and was transferred to the USS Prairie when she rotated to Sasabo. I was assigned to the watch and clock shop where I learned watch repair. I Ran the watch shop on the Prairie until muster out in December of 1960. The only job I know of in the Navy where you could legally make money (Captains approved price list)using Navy tools and equipment. As an added bonus, I slept in the shop and had my own port hole. I once traded a ships clock with bells to a corpsman, for a gallon of pure grain alcohol. The watch shop was off of the optical shop, so at sea, we dogged down the hatches and played cards. Our refreshments were Upper Ten and that infamous jug. I don't think I have ever been that messed up again. Charles R. Morgan Oxford, AR
