Album: Kato Polyclay HIA Shoe Exhibit 2004

“Feat of Clay” Exhibit. I was one of 50 polymer clay artists invited to participate in this juried exhibit. We were provided with Kato polyclay and asked to create a polymer clay shoe from scratch or covering a real shoe. They were exhibited at the Kato Polyclay booth at the HIA (Hobby Industry Association) Show in Dallas, Texas in February, 2004 and are in the book, "The Art of Polymer Clay: Creative Surface Effects" by Donna Kato.

“A Lady(bug)’s Life.” I hope my shoe reminds people to take time to enjoy the pleasures life has to offer. My shoe is divided into two areas to represent the challenges women face in their daily lives. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of everyday routines and tasks. It’s hard to make time for yourself and do the things you enjoy. The ladybugs on the “road” side of the shoe are busy in their daily lives filled with cleaning, cooking, taking care of children, bills, work, weight issues, fast food, watching the clock and health concerns. The ladybugs are less colorful because they are overwhelmed by stress and overworked. The items on the “grass” side of the shoe are things women may enjoy when they take time for themselves: reading, listening to music, art, talking to friends on the cell phone, love, coffee, beach or vacations, playing with their kids. The ladybugs are more colorful because they are relaxed, happy and rejuvenated.
