Album: Spain - August 2005

Andulucia is the southern section of Spain. Birthplace of Pablo Picasso and Federico Garcia Lorca, it has a rich heritage dating back to the Bronze Age (around 2500 BC). The influences in this area are numerous: evidence of Phoenician and Greek colonies, a period of Roman Spain, a time of Arab domination which was followed by period of Moorish custodianship and then the 'reconquista' by Christians.

An area much loved by artists and writers and captured in famous works such as: Lord Byron's 'Don Juan', Washington Irving's 'Tales from the Alhambra' and Ernest Hemingway's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls.' Operas set in Andulucia include: The Marriage of Figaro (Mozart), the Barber of Seville (Rossini) and Carmen (Bizet.) What follows is a small portion of the most impactful sights from our trip.
