Album: Wrap Dolls

The art of wrapping sacred objects (Nkisi) can be traced to the people of Sierra Leone and Congo. This technique was passed from generation to generation surviving the "crossing" to the Americas. Africans new to the Americas reinvented this technique to suit the materials available to them - cloth, natural fibers and wood.

These dolls are wrapped around recycled water containers. Using one piece of cloth and string, a figure is fashioned. They are embellished with beautiful fabrics and beads. This is one type of dollmaking technique I use to create my interpretation of the ancient art form. I teach this technique. I am available for children and adult parties, conferences, gatherings. Perfect for a girl's night get-together. contact me beezartdolls@gmail.com
