Martha's Quilted Satin petticoat. In the 1700's most everything that women wore was fastened with lacings or ties. The petticoat front and back waistline is finished separately leaving about 1/4th of the side seam open to get 'into' and to reach the 'pocket'. Ties are fastened to each of the four sides(two front and two back) the back ties in the front and then the front is tied at the back.
