Album: Progress of a doll
I volunteered to make a doll for our Local DAR chapter to display as a fund raiser, at the State Convention in March. I chose Martha Washington because her husband was President during the Ameican Revolution. I drafted and Designed Martha as a composit of several paintings done of her. One as a young woman and the other as an older one. I did research into the clothing of the era, using as my best reference the information published by Susan Sirkis, in her WishBook series, number 14, "Fashions 1776". I drafted all of the many items of clothing onto the doll using paper toweling to create the pattern pieces but used the illustrations given in the booklet for style and guidance.
