2005 Summer Production of "The Wizard of Oz." (1.) Working with a pre-cut base of heavy-duty interfacing donated by another volunteer, I ironed on light-weight silver fabric with fusible webbing. This took a long time, and I strongly recommend working with a press cloth to avoid bubbles. (2.) I backed the top stars with aluminum tape to give them strength and flexibility. (3.) I attached fake pearls with small pieces of lightweight wire to snowflake-shaped scrapbooking brads, then inserted them into small holes punched into the crown. (4.) I applied the star outline and filigree to the front of the crown using ultra-fine glitter with a combination of decorative adhesive and adhesive pen. I also experimented in spots using 3D Scribbles Paint in Crystal, but it doesn't show up at all in the picture. (5.) I filled the inside of the large star using tacky glue and opaque glitter. (6.) I hot-glued a pink plastic gem to the middle of the opaque star. (7.) I added a puffy sticker star to the crown's middle top star, just because I thought it needed something up there. (8.) To give the top of the crown an ethereal cloud-like feeling, I created a small "pillow" out of white tulle netting and taped it, with double-sided tacky tape, inside the upper-half of the crown. The "pillow" sticks up just a little bit. -- Kim M. Bayne, costume/backstage crew member
