Album: Diamond Willow Growing on Our Property , April 2004

For those of you interested in diamond willow and not knowing what it really is, I've posted these photos. I will add new ones of projects made from this wonderful wood when they are completed.

Diamond Willow grows primarily in the northern tier of the United States and the consensus is that the lovely red-brown diamonds are caused by a fungus that attacks the trees.

After cutting it down in June (easier peeling or debarking), the bark needs to be stripped and sanded. The diamonds need to be carved out to make them "pop" against the light colored wood.

Eventually I will be selling the osiers, rods and sticks incorporating them into my basketry and possibly furniture.
