Album: The Sock Quilt by Ricki Moffat
I knit many of the little socks on this quilt, and mailed them in batches to Ricki throughout the year, as she stitched and sent photo updates. Ricki is a fine socknitter, too, incidentally, and has a day job that takes away from precious needlework time!
Ricki stitched the names and cities of the various knitters on the floor boards, and added some funny text in the window about the sun and her Turkish-inspired socks. A gold clothesline tops the quilt off, with little socks hanging on clothespins. The borders feature animal topiaries.
"Oh, No! Mom Has A New Hobby"
The quilt's title refers to a woman's obsession with knitting socks. Sound familiar? There are socks everywhere in this exuberant quilt, on the cat, the table, the sun and much more. Ricki Moffat of Edmonton, Canada, asked the Socknitters list for some "smaller than baby-size" socks and this is her quilt. It is about 4 feet square and wildly embellished with Ricki's siganture beading and embroidery, as well as dozens of socks sent from all over the world. I became fascinated with making smaller socks and this led to the design of Los Lobe Hose, tiny sock earrings.
