Album: Lindner Daly Damascus
Early Schoverling, Daly & Gales catalogs described Daly damascus as "Clunny", "Bernard", "Turkish First Quality", and "Chine." Ferlacher Chine is 4 Iron Damas Turc or Turkischer Damask. From the 1892 SD&G catalog, under the Model 200 Charles Daly Hammerless Gun: "Diamond Quality - Bernard, Turkish, or Chine first quality Damascus barrels, exquisitely engraved locks and mountings, finest curly turkish walnut, checkered triggers, hand matted ribs. As fine as can be made in every particular...$175.00." "Fine Damascus" was listed on lower models.
The name "Charles Daly" first appeared on firearms around 1875 after he and partner August Schoverling began importing hardware, sporting goods and eventually firearms in New York City. Later joined by Joseph Gales, the company became knows as Schoverling, Daly & Gales but continued to use the Charles Daly name on firearms from such companies as Schiller, Lindner, Heym, and Sauer of Germany, J&W Tolley of England, and Newman of Belgium. Charles Daly died in 1899 but the company continued on under the partnership that by then included his son, Charles Howard Daly. In 1919 the the company and rights to the Daly name were sold to Henry Modell, who sold out to the Walzers' family in the late 1920's. Eventually Sloan's Sporting Goods bought the company.
