Album: 78 F150 Shortbox Supercab

This is my new... well new to me.. truck. Needed to get the larger cab sine we have a new addition to the family. I've always liked the looks of these trucks. Lots of style and class. That and when else could you get a heavy half ton with 460 big block?? I had been looking for some time for a supercab. I was picky, I wanted a 1/2 ton, shortbed with a 460 in it, preferably a factory tu-tone, typically and XLT. They made quite a few back in the day, but just not as many around anymore. This here is the top of the line XLT Lariat with all the options including the tow package called 'Trailer Special'. It's got power brakes, power steering, A/C, extra huge desert cool radiator, extra tranny cooler, powersteering cooler, extra capacity (9qt) oil pan and the top of the line interior and exterior trim packages. I'm the 3rd owner and the previous owner only had it for about a year. The truck is all original with the exception of the bed. The original was heavily damaged and I bought that bed seperately. I paid $700 for this truck with no bed and a blown up rear end and trashed drivelines. The 460 and C6 had approx 25K on them since rebuild and the sucker ran really good, just couldn't drive it. It had a 4.11 posi in it and the kid I got it from blew the 3rd member and drivelines doing a burnout. I patched it up with my stash of spare parts and limped it to my house and spent a few weeks going through it. Only to have it on the road 2 weeks and have the engine break a valvespring triggering even more engine problems later resolved by a total engine rebuild. So now it's got a fresh .040 460 that's about 460ft lbs of torque and about 300hp. And let me tell you, it is a severe stump puller and a real squirrel on wet pavement!

Now that the engine is done, I'm hoping that the tranny is going to last. I'd like to get going on the paint and such but it's gettin into winter now and that may have to wait. Thankfully the interior is in really great shape and really nice. Everythine else in the truck works except for the A/C. It's been disconnected so I need to throw a couple of pieces at that to get it up and working for next summer.

Here it is, probably a week after i initially purchased it. I know, the bed doesn't match, but it will soon enoough. I bout it for $700 bedless, and pick up the bed shortly thereafter. I was lucky to even find a bed! I'll eventually repaint, back to those original colors, leaving all the trim and deleting the cab lights and the add-on turn sig indicators on the hood.
