Album: PETALUMA STREETS 2008
The condition of Petaluma's local streets has been a subject of controversy in recent years. A few years back, the situation was so bad that a group of people formed a Coalition to Preserve Petaluma's Potholes. Their tactics had some success in that the City did manage to come up with the funds to do some work. However, decades of neglect have not been erased. Given no regular maitenance program and of course, no funds, the situation has continued to deteriorate. The problem is further compounded in some areas due to the fact that street repairs are also postponed due to pending sewer repairs--another infrastructure problem for which there is no money.
Photos in this album provide a visual sample of current conditions on the East Side and West Side. The East Side photos are of the Lauren and East Madison area. Some have said that East Madison is the worst. Frankly I don't know how they can say that given the conditions of other streets in the area. But I suppose pothole perception is in the eye of the beholder. In case you have not noticed, there are portions of Sonoma Mountain that are in need of attention. The West Side photos are from Post Street--Typical of many West Side streets that have been patched so many times they resemble patchwork quilts.
