Album: Angel Falls
Nov 2007 we left the boat in Puerto La Cruz and went to visit Salto Angel (falls in Spanish is Salto). This is the tallest waterfall in the world, 3000' or almost 1000 meters high. See the slide show on the file server for the best presentation of these pix http://www.badongo.com/en/vid/567788
We had an outstanding guide from Angel-Eco, Antonio, and the trip was timed perfectly for water flow. Our Pemon Indian hosts did an exceptionally fine job with the accomodations and transport. Maneuvering a heavily loaded launch upriver and down through rapids is a tricky task! All in all the experience of a lifetime. This is a photo of Canaima lagoon near the airport where the plane lands and the tourist operators have their main camps. We had an 8 hour bus ride from PLC, then an overnight in Ciudad Bolìvar followed by a 1 hour plane ride in a small plane to Canaima. From there the launch took us up river to the camp on the Rio Churùn (tributary of the Rio Carrao) and we walked the last 1.5 hours up to the base of the falls where the sandstone cliffs end in the jungle.
