Stub Twist

From Greener's 'The Gun': "Stub-Twist Iron was made from horse-nail stubs (iron) mixed with coach spring steel, forged into a 'bloom of iron', which was then hammer forged into rods, and rolled into threads. The threads were then wrapped around a mandrel, as many as 16 spirals per 6" and welded."
