Album: PETALUMA'S COASTAL CLEAN UP! September 15, 2007
As part of the statewide effort to clean up our coast, creeks and waterways, over 130 volunteers set out on Saturday morning to clean debris from 1. Lucchesi Park and Lynch Creek to 101 and 2. East Washington Creek. Photos in this album attempt to document their efforts.
The Press Democrat reported on September 16, 2007 that the total "take" on the coastal clean up for Sonoma County was 3154 pounds (trash & recyclables). The figure I obtained for the Petaluma effort was 2019 pounds. So far no one has challenged the numbers. The only conclusion is that almost 2/3 came from Petaluma. And the volunteers did not weigh everything! In the "unusual items" category, the Press Democrat reported a pellet gun and a wooden duck's head. In Petaluma, volunteers found a complete wooden duck! In addition, four shopping carts were pulled out of Lynch Creek; the four abandoned Safeway carts from East Washington Creek proved invaluable tools in the transport of trash and debris to the dumpsters.
