We notice that many fence companies sell fence installations with decorative post tops only to see them not take advantage of the positive aesthetics associated with dressing up a fence with decorative posts.
If you have looked through some of our photo albums already, you will have noticed that when dressing up a fence we tend to set our posts in-line with the sections. This allows the full post to be seen and creates that dimensional diversification of the post protruding forward from the section, thus giving the fence character. For those of you who have not already taken a look at our other albums or need a refresher look as to what our in-line" fence installations look like, the next pair of pictures in this album will be helpful.
Here, you see what the fence looks like when the posts are set behind the sections of fence, decorative post top sticking over the top, from behind. It is almost difficult to even notice the tops are there. With this type of post installation, the 2 x 4 backrails are attached to the front face of the 4 x 4 posts much the same way a typical standard set fence is.
Our theory is, if you are paying for a decorative post top, why not let the post decorate the fence some, especially when the cost of installing in-line is minimal.
