Gee, don't see this mash and weld method of gate construction anymore but did have to pass this one on to you all. Ran across this on a job that we needed to shore up the bottom of the fabric to stop the great doggie escapes (another picture altogether).
Used years before the notcher became common place, this is something you so do not want to see (and likely seldom see from even the worst of installers) as the method for having your gate welded together. Your gates should have notched, welded joints. They should be sprayed or brushed with a galvanized sealant (if the gate frame is galvanized) or the same and painted (to match vinyl color being installed) , if vinyl coated.
