An inside look of the standard Dog-eared fence. This view shows the backbone of the fence. Top and bottom 2" x 4" backrails are installed so that the pickets are 7" above and below. 4" x 4" posts situate themselves 5" below the top of the picket as to allow there to be sufficient post space for the nail attachment of the top 2" x 4"
