la Gran Sabana, Tanno Itoy in Pemon, is a large land area south of Puerto Ordaz and bounded by Guayana on the east (formerly British Guayana), Brazil on the south, and the Amazon basin on the west. Slide show with comments available at http://www.badongo.com/vid/1049141

It's an area mostly abandoned to the native Indians (Pemones), miners, missionaries, tourists, and otherwise ignored by 'modern civilization'. The abundance of rivers, waterfalls, tepuys (big mesas) and the chance to meet the Pemon people in their native settlements are what attracted us.
