Album: Catawba Valley British Motor Club
Not too much on the club's schedule as the weather gets pretty hot, but did want to mention our August 8 meeting at Jim Cates' home in Morganton. Jim was in the new Mini convertible on Sunday. It is our monthly meeting, but we only do a barbecue and poker run rally. Always a good time. The second one is the Waldensian Festival in downtown Valdese, NC. Good car show, but better yet is the Festival with all kinds of craft stands, etc.
This past weekend, Father's Day to be exact, brought together an exotic array of LBCs (Little British Cars). For the first time in a while, there was a good showing of Austin-Healeys; Steve Barvenik, Guy Ervin, Gary Shaver and Rudy Streng. Now if Bill Baird had brought his Golden Healey and Charles Reed, his Ice Blue Healey, we would have really dominated the group. As it was, Bill brought his MGB and Charles, his Triumph. And as hind sight would have it, I'm sure Bill would have changed as he broke down only 5 miles short of our destination in Little Switzerland. Five of our group stopped to help Bill and correct some electrical problems with his distributor cap. There were several more MGs, Triumphs, a pair of Lotuses, a Mini convertible, an unusual Morgan and our ever present Silver Bullet Corvette. As in the past, I asked the Chef and some of the staff at the restaurant to pick out the winning car. He chose Ellis & Rachel King's beautiful Morgan and they received a model car as donated by Hemmings Motor News. All the fathers received a CVBMC logo etched beer stein as a souvenir of the day. A small surplus of steins will be available for sale at the next meeting I always said you may get older, but you don't have to grow up...! Rudy Streng Our website is www.catawbabritishcars.com.
