Arctic Gentian is the last alpine species to bloom. We look for it around the first of August on grassy knolls at about 11,500 feet and higher. Like other Gentians, Arctic Gentian likes a constantly moist, humus-rich soil and full sun (where the ambient temperature is cool). Tucking the roots under a bread-loaf-size rock will keep them cool and moist even when the air temperature is hot.
