Graniteville Woods

The following are photos taken along Cowdry Hill Road, on land proposed for the Graniteville Woods project, Town of Westford land and Town Highway garage land. Hopefully these photos will give an idea of the landscape of this area.

The Graniteville Woods area is approximately 200 acres of former granite quarry lands. There are many beautiful stone walls, wetlands, and remnants of quarrying activity that took place in the late 1800's. The land is dotted by quarry waste piles now covered in lichen, moss and other plant life. Many wetland pools have formed in the excavated quarry holes. Many of the trees covering this land are small as evidence of the thin soil covering. The area along Cowdry Hill Rds borders the important Snake Meadow Brook and wetlands area.
