SHATTERED (reg 2006 )
SHATTERED has been released only twice since it was registered,as it has had all kinds of pitfalls plague it since then. The year after lining it out, a flood washed all but one piece into the river. Two years later, it had almost the entire clump eaten off at the soil line by voles. I finally got smart and moved in close to the house where I can keep an eye on it!!
SHATTERED makes small plants, bloom is 5", scape 25", 3 branches per scape with up to 18 buds, will rebloom readily when established. Parentage is BROKEN PROMISE X DESTINED TO SEE. The stable 'Rembrandt' pattern is what sets this daylily apart, I have never had it bloom without significant streaking on the petals. Pollen is very good, pods take some work. To be honest, I have not tried setting pods much on my plants to keep from stressing them out. The seedlings I have bloomed from it were crossed with HEAVEN'S MIRAGE and its sibs. These have shown significant patterns in the eyes, and a few have also manifested the 'Rembrandt' markings. I think this will become more apparent when the 2nd and 3rd generations are bloomed, and some backcrossing done with SHATTERED into these also.
A work in progress for the aggressive and far-thinking hybridizer to increase the gene pool of this color pattern.
