Mercury Atlas 7 (Carpenter)
This is the Captain's Cover for the recovery of Scott Carpenter from his three orbit Mercury flight on May 24, 1962. In addition to the Captain's autograph, Carpenter has also autographed this cover. Carpenter landed several hundred miles off target. Helicopters from the Intrepid finally recovered Carpenter over an hour after splashdown. Another ship recovered the capsule (see next page).
