The real McDonald's please stand up!
The McDonald brothers open the original McDonald's in 1948. Ray Kroc open the first franchise store in Des Plaines, Chicago in 1955 and which he claimed it to be the first McDonald's (he later bought out the brothers in 1961). Today, the McDonald's Corporation still claims the Chicago location as the first ever store, but now you know the rest of the story.
