The Highlands' Hollywood Star

On April 18th, 2005, I flew out to Santa Monica, California as a guest of Guthy-Renker to share my Winsor Pilates Success story on one of their next infomercials (coming soon to a television screen near you). It was a 4 day, 3 night all-expense paid trip! I had one of the best vacations of my life and couldn't have imagined it better. The corner room they reserved for me was newly renovated with the most breathtaking view of Santa Monica Beach out one window and a panoramic view of the mountains out another window. My friend Jess, whom I met online several years ago when we both became Moms to March 2001 babies, also came to share her success story. She and her Mom stayed in the room above mine. It was so fun to finally meet her in person. When Guthy-Renker found out Jess and I had plans to meet with other local March 2001 Moms on the Santa Monica pier, they insisted on not only making us reservations at the roof top restaurant in the hotel, but also taking care of the bill, providing gift bags for all and even taping the lunch for possible use in a future ad. It was great to finally meet those California Moms, too! I can't even begin to thank the people at Guthy-Renker and Cort Howell Productions enough for the star treatment during my visit to California.

The actual shoot was a much more intricate process than I ever imagined. I was shocked at how many people were involved, from sound techs to light techs to everyone else making sure hairs weren't out of place, zippers were zipped and food was only a step away. It was such a great group of people and everyone was so incredibly professional, even the poor sound guy that had to keep putting his hand up my shirt because my tremor was effecting the sound on the mic. Although I've become a walking bill-board for Winsor Pilates, even talking about it in my sleep, when it came time to actually shoot my interview with one of the producers I felt like I became completely tongue-tied! So much for all of the performing experience I've had in the past, LOL. And when I had to do Pilates on camera, under the direction of Hector from the Fat Burning DVD, between the jetlag, Parkinson's, nerves and excitment, I could BARELY do these Pilates moves that have sculpted my body slim over the past year. They said I did great, but I know I could've done better. I guess I wasn't too terrible because there is talk of them following up with me and possibly coming out to Maryland to shoot me singing the National Anthem at a ball park and even following me to my 20th High School Reunion this June! Time will tell...in the meantime, PYBO!
