Inside the cone building...the swing pit
To the right of this life-size mockup of a cylinder-blowing pit are the remains of the enormous glass-furnace where the continuous-feed Victorian glass was kept molten. Glass was drawn out and blown into a hollow bubble, often weighing 60lbs!It was then moved along on a wheeled dolly and swung into the slit-shaped trench, where it was swung back and forth whilst being simultaneously rotated...this elongated it into a 10-foot muff-cylinder/bubble ...the ends were cut off , the cylinder was scored and tapped on the inside, and the muff flattened out with more heat into a flat sheet.
