Installing a Corvette Dana Super 44 IRS

I knew that my engine choice was going to be tough on a differential, but I wanted an IRS. My choice was a '90-92 Dana 44 HD or "Super 44" from a ZR-1 Corvette, which is the same differential found in the Vipers. It has 3.45 gears and is limited slip (as in Positraction), as are all Corvette differentials of the 84-96 vintage. I will be changing the gear ratio to a 4.10 using Viper gears from Dana.

I used my frame jig to position the assembled rearend in the frame. I wanted to center the 295 tires in a mini-tubbed wheelwell, so I needed to narrow the rearend about 3". Because of the Corvette suspension design, that also necessitated a 3" narowing of the frame in the hump area. This section shows how that was accomplished and this picture is the end result. I had a custom solid 1" swaybar fabricated by Quickor Suspensions per my design.
