welcome to my garden welcome to our garden, on a steep hill, in a small valley, in northern california. the garden is laced with hundreds of narrow steps that take us to many different garden areas within our five acres. next to the house is a very small greenhouse and potting area, flanked by a small orchard. follow the paths thru the fruit trees and you enter frog hill, with stairs lined in lavenders and a bridge that walks you to a 100 year old oak and cozy hammock. enjoy the shade, in summer we have reached 117 degrees... continuing down frog hill you enter into a circular rose garden, always festooned in fragrant blossoms. pass thru the morning glory gated archways to my monet garden planted in blues, oranges and yellows. above this area is my cutting garden, below my bearded iris collection and second rose garden. as you keep walking forward you will pass the 100' long perennial border, but alas with free roaming deer by the score, the choices are limited... the road ends at a T with a sunburst bench, looking down the road, it is lined in trees to show off their fall glory, looking up the hill you will see my rock garden, germany and italy. germany and italy are still works in progress, inspired from gardens we have seen in our travels. germany will be a very narrow waterfall with evergreens, italy will be rose pillared columns flanked with iris, rosemary and lavandars. working on steep hills means the time factor is quadrupled... following up the hill we have the wild garden with buffy as the gate keeper, below her is a teeny tiny pond and arbor to enjoy the birds and deer. keep huffing your way back up the hill and you enter rose hill, this too a work in progress... from the arched roses you pass into my color garden, terraced beds filled with annuals, continue walking up and you will see the ivy house, a cool respite in the summer shade and a blaze of red in the fall garden. cross another small bridge and you enter the fall garden, all these trees will light up the autumn sky with fiery reds, oranges and yellows, with the glorious valley view beyond. thank you for walking our garden, hope we didn't tire you out too much... for those of you interested in bearded iris, i do have other albums for viewing. |
