New Years 1999 in Europe

My brother Rick and I celebrated the new millennium by traveling to Iberia. Our wanderlust took us to three countries (Spain, Portugal, Morocco), two continents (Europe and Africa), and one territory (English Gibralter). The images of Spain - flamenco dancing, bullfighting, tapas bars, the evening paseo and the never ending nightlife came to life as our travels took us from Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Granada, Morocco, Gibralter, Seville, and Lisbon.

We rambled on the Las Ramblas, wandered deep into the Gothic Quarter and celebrated the new millennium in Barcelona, joined the Wellington Society in the very cold Madrid, screamed Holy Toledo! when we encountered the magnificent cathedral in Toldeo, experienced in Granada the sumptuous Alhambra, spent an exciting day trip in the Tijuana of North Africa - Morocco, had my camera broken at the "Rock" (not Alcatraz - the Rock of Gibralter), had a taste of folk life at a riveting flameco show in Seville, and tossed our guidebook aside as we wandered aimlessly in historical Lisbon. From El Greco to flamenco we felt the pulse of Spain and Portugal - past and present and along the way drank a lot of cafe' con leches! (Note: these photos were taken before my digital days. They were taken with my old Olympus camera and scanned into my computer. As I have the time I will scan in more photos to add to this album in the future). Photos and text copyright by Sam Antonio.
