Got Pepcid??
Albertson's in the Panhandle of Florida had a 10/$10 sale on the 5-count Pepcid AC which is a good price as the regular price at Albertson's is $2.99 a box. To make this deal even sweeter there was a $1 c/o off any Pepcid product excluding trial size that was in the January Valassic insert. Others were posting that for each box that was rung up a $1 off your next order Catalina printed out.
I had gotten ten coupons from my inserts and made my first trip to try out the sale. They only had 10 boxes on the shelf so that worked out perfectly. It was the last day of the sale so I did not feel bad about taking the last 10 boxes. The cashier rang up the ten boxes and as she rang them up, Catalinas starting printing out. She then took off my coupons and my total was $1.70 all tax. I then went to the customer service desk and got 4 rain checks each good for 25 of the $1 Pepcid AC.
I literally danced home thinking how I was going to make this work to my advantage. I could not wait to log on to my computer to start requesting these coupons from my fellow traders. I traded for 100 of the $1/1 Pepcid coupons and my cost on these was $7.50. I then called Albertson's and asked to speak to the drug manager. His assistant said she would order 100 for me and that they would be in on Sunday and she would call me when they came in. On Sunday I waited patiently and when I had not heard from her by 2 p.m. I called and she said they did not come in. She would call on Monday and see what had happened. Monday afternoon she called and said they thought there had been a mistake in keying the product and that is why they did not ship 100 boxes. She said they were reordered and would be in on Thursday. Thursday came and no call so I called again and this time spoke to the drug manager who said he had watched her order them on Monday and he would personally check into the problem. I told him as long as I had them by the 23rd of March, I would be fine as that was the last day being reported for the Catalinas to print out.
This ordering, checking, and reordering went on until they finally came in on March 20th. I was not able to get there until the 22nd, which was cutting it closer than I was comfortable with. Now, as Paul Harveysays, heres the rest of the story. When I got to the store, I checked with Customer Service which is where the drug manager said he would leave them. I said to the girl, 100 boxes of Pepcid are being held for me. She looked and said she could not find Pepcid and she would call back to the drug department. The person did not know anything about the Pepcid so they had to call the drug manager at home. He called back to Customer Service and said there was a box with the Pepcid AC on hold for me. The Customer Service girl said to me, If you had said Pepcid AC I would have known what you were talking about. DUH!! Pepcid or Pepcid AC!?. I was very patient and said, I am sorry, my mistake, no big deal. I knew the deal I was getting was so sweet that I was not going to get upset over the small stuff.
I went to the USCAN and that was a big mistake. I scanned the boxes 25 at a time, the cashier put in the rain check, the Catalinas printed out, and then the coupons came off. So far so good. They then decided to use the quantity key so it would not take so long. Everything was fine but only 25 Catalinas printed out instead of the 75 that should have printed out. I told her that only 25 had printed out and that 75 should have, so she voided the order and tried it again. She tore off the 25 and handed them to me. Again only 25 printed out so she voided the transaction again and handed the 25 to me. I asked what she wanted to do with them and she said I could have them since they printed out. She then said we were going to a regular cashier and try it there. She rang them up using the quantity key and all 75 of them printed out no problem.
I ended up with 110 boxes of Pepcid AC for $19.73 and $160 $1/your next purchase Catalinas (how I used these will be another story). I am so glad that I got back into refunding after taking 10 years off (I am so embarrassed to say that) and stockpiling is a great thing. I have been back into rebating/couponing for 2 years now and don't plan on stopping again.
