I think half the fun of shopping is never knowing what bargains youll find and walk out with.
Well, last year after Christmas, I had gotten some of the Nestle Holiday baking chips when they were really cheap. I had brought them home and had my kids sort out the red, green, and chocolate chips into bags to freeze for later. I love to make cookies all year round so we never have too many chocolate chips!
Just before Christmas this year, I found some blinkie coupons for 50¢/2 Nestle chips. They were good until January, so I carefully saved them for later.
When Targets Christmas items went to 75% off, I went and checked out the chips. Sure enough they were scanning at 75% off. They ended up being about 54¢ a bag and then with the coupons I had, they were about 29¢ each. Well, around here, that is a great price. So I bought 10 bags since thats how many coupons I had at the time. I figured that would last us a few months.
Well, when I got home and started thinking about it, I just determined I needed to get back there for the 90% off and see if any chips were left. I could use the red ones chopped up for Valentines Day and the green ones well, for lots of things. So on the 90% off day, we headed back to Target. This time, the chips were also 90% off and 18¢ a bag. We cleaned out the shelf. I dont usually take all thats there, but these hadnt been touched since wed been there several days earlier so I figured that no one else was looking for these. My daughter has taken great delight in her job of sorting the chips for me.
Last week when I stopped in Target for a run through the endcaps, I found Suave lotion, full sized bottles, on clearance for 87¢. I had 13 $1/1 any Suave lotion coupons so I loaded up my cart. I was really excited. Ive been getting free trail sized lotions for months but these are full size!
Then I was cruising the dairy section and they had a whole case of Silk Soymilk marked down to $1.49 a half gallon. I had a bunch of $1/1 coupons so loaded up my cart with milk for many weeks.
Then at the last stop at Walmart, I drove my cart past the mark down section and found the Scotch tape that people had been posting weeks ago, marked at $1 for a 4 roll box. I had coupons for $1 off so was able to get 3 packages of tape for free.
Ive also been writing to the different companies of products that we use on a regular basis and have been receiving coupons from the manufacturer. Its been great since some of the coupons are ones Ive never seen on those products before. That, matched with the other great deals and bargains, is what makes it possible for me to feed my family on the same budget we had when it was just my husband and me in college without any kids. If only Id known then what I know now!
