Twila McCombs
I have been using coupons & refunding for about 30 years. I started when I was in high school. I thought it was neat to use coupons & get the item cheaper. The first free thing I bought was some plastic wrap. I presented a coupon + a double & made it free. A cousin of mine introduced me to doubles. I have been fortunate to have doubles [limited to 4] for most of those 30 years. I subscribed to RMC years ago & for some reason let it expire. I still used coupons & refunded but not as much as I had when I was younger. Then in 1992 I got married & decided I wanted to get back into it & I subscribed again & I wont let it expire this time. I love reading RC & also chit chat. I have 2 children who like to help me. My daughter when she was about 4 would help me cut the coupons & she did very well. Now she helps me find the items we have coupons for & she also points out the clearance items. My 4 year old son gets the coupons out of the blinky machine. Both of my children know that I will only buy something if I have a coupon & its on sale or I can get a great deal on it. My daughter already wants to have her own coupons & also wants to do her own refunds. I guess I have taught her well.
I wanted to tell you about my summer garage sale. There comes a time when you just look at your store and say, Well, thats it. Its full. Overflowing was more the case and I set about boxing the excess and preparing for the sale. My parents let us use their house as they have a lot more traffic going by. One the first day of the sale, all the cleaning products went quickly at $1 each followed by the shampoos and other hair care products. The mens Quatro razors all sold at $3 each and we did ok on the toothpaste. Items that did not sell well were; medicines, pop, Palmolive wipes, electro sol tablets, feminine products and dog food for small dogs. The food for large dogs sold well. Pictured here is my 9 y/o Daughter Sarah after helping set up the garage sale. I did the pricing and the organization. My Husband Mark and Daughter Sarah ran the till and did the selling. We came out several hundred dollars ahead and look forward to our next clearance sale!
