Wool log cabin experiment
Using an extra log cabin block from the all-wool quilt I made for my son, I wondered how it would look with some stitching. I didn't go for perfection on my stitches with this sample block, so be kind. I just experimented with how the wool fabric stitches up. I basted an 8-inch-square piece of muslin on the back before I started embroidering. This block was strip-patched first and backed. I will probably do another block, but try sewing each log strip to a muslin block as I go (stitch and flip) and compare the results. I will use a wool batting between the top and final backing if I make a quilt. The muslin foundation will keep the batting from bearding thru the top. I am also envisioning buttons in the center squares to tack all the layers together. Whatcha think?

Suzanne, this is a great idea, thanks for sharing, someone gave me some velvet log cabins that I didn't know what to do with, like the idea of the button centers. Hope you show us your next block,
