Miraculous Spiral Staircase
The staircase makes two complete 360-degree turns with no central or other visible support. The legend goes as follows: when the building was nearly finished workers realized the stairs to the choir loft wouldn't fit. After much prayer a mysterious carpenter appeared astride a donkey and built the staircase with only a saw, hammer, and a T-square. The master constructed the work of genius by soaking slats of wood in tubs of water to curve them and holding them together with wooden pegs. Then he disappeared without bothering to collect his fee.
