San Rafael Canyon, UT
From this dispersed campsite, the canyon walls descend 1,000 feet to the San Rafael River. Good, two-wheel-drive roads lead into this area from Utah 10. A turnoff to the left before you get to this rim will take you down into the canyon to a shady rest area containing an interpretive display of many Indian pictographs and a few ancient petroglyphs. Across the river is a BLM fee campground ($5/night) surrounded by imposing redrock formations.
