THE SIXTIES It all began in London in the early sixties, when I was introduced to F.N. Souza, a Goan artist, whose paintings inspired me to strike out on my own and thus begin a new voyage of self-discovery. Living in a hostel at South Kensington at the time, there was easy access to the Victoria & Albert Museum and King's Road art galleries. I used charcoal, pastels, pencils and oils and especially enjoyed sketching faces. The portrait shown here is of FRANCIS NEWTON SOUZA, the first oil portrait I have ever done. |
