Album: FLORENCE & SIENA

Florence has long been world-famous for its artistic and architectural treasures. As one of the main centers of the Italian Renaissance, the number and quality of its paintings, sculptures and art is unrivalled in any European city.

Siena is Italy's most enchanting medieval city. It was bitterly envied by Florence. The city is laid out over slopes of three steep hills which meet in the center of the old town. Almost all roads lead to the Piazza del Campo.

Giotto Belltower

In 1334 Giotto presented his design and building began. Giotto died three years later and completion did not occur until 1384. One must climb 414 steps to arrive at the top of the tower.
