Hawaii 2004-Pearl Harbor

Wednesday, July 21, 2004 - We started the morning with a continental breakfast at our hotel, the Aston Coconut. Afterwards, we drove to Pearl Harbor or rather we parked on the H1 freeway due to the morning traffic. Finally we arrived only to find more traffic, but this time it was human bodies rather than cars. After waiting in line for an hour to get tickets, we awaited another two and half hours for our scheduled time to see the USS Arizona Memorial. While waiting, my dad and I met a very nice lady from Florida. During the course of our conversation she told us she was a democrat working to elect John Kerry for President. We "pearl harbored" her liberal arguments and then she excused herself. I wonder why???

Aboard the USS Arizona Memorial it was a humbling experience to remember all the men who sacrificed their young lives. Afterwards, we proceeded to the USS Missouri battleship where General Douglas MacArthur accepted the Japanese surrender of WWII. After a long day we headed to Chinatown and had dinner. Back at the hotel Rhiannon got sick and threw up. I don't think it was the food, but I believe she got nauseated from that John Kerry supporter we met earlier in the day. The next day we hiked up to Diamond Head and gratefully we didn't meet anymore Kerry supporters. Otherwise, there may have some accidental falls and I would have had to deny any and all accusations.
