Simple geometry SHOULD have told me that this configuration would not work as a simple awning (WHO said you won't use math in the real world???") Ultimately, we slapped the valance, lining and all over a simple batted painted wood frame...not what AMy would have done, mind you, but with track lights under it proved to be a grand solution...and the client is more than thrilled...
