Days blended into weeks and, as time passed, William learned more and more words in English…words that Clark knew held the potential for the return of his daughter. “Wanna play trains with me?” Sandy asked William, as he began to set up the station. William slid off of his rocking horse and joined in. “ Once, a long time ago, Papa and all of us kids rode on a train to come to BC. Mama did, too, but you probably don’t remember her.” William picked up the cars and fondled them lovingly. “I ride train,” William said. Sandy answered, “Maybe someday, William”. Then William continued, “Gretyl ride train,” and, after a time, added, “Josette ride train”. Sandy stopped what he was doing and looked at William.

“Who is Josette?” he asked. “Friend,” he replied. “Will’s Friend. Gretyl’s friend,” and continued happily in his play, while Sandy went to his Father with this new information. Clark was, once again, on the phone with the RCMP. “That’s interesting that you should say that, Clark, “said Constable Firman, “Because we have just learned that TWO little girls have been picked up in the same area where we found William. Our people are just questioning them now. “ He would let Clark know when he found out more. Clark wouldn’t sleep that night.
