Another story found in the letter...
which was outlined in the papers that fell at my feet from my Aunt Ruthie was a story about her Grandmother on her Father's side (pictured here). Her name was Mary Elizabeth: At the end of the civil war, Carpet Baggers raided, taking everything they could get their hands on. Mary Elizabeth's father Aaron was hung and left for dead from a tree in the yard. Grandmother had hidden all of their money in her hair, which she had pinned up into a large bun. Raiders took a peach cobbler and the last of the sugar. They never harmed her (or anyone else in the family) and they never found the money she had hidden. After they left, she went out and cut down her father, saving his life.
